The next morning, I woke up and saw Nick still asleep. I got up and got dressed. I went downstairs. The doorbell rang. I opened the door and saw a girl standing there.
"Can I help you?" I asked.
"Who the hell are you?" she asked.
"The question is who the hell are you," I said crossing my arms.
"My name is Mandy, is Nick here?" she asked.
"He's asleep, I'll tell him you came by, goodbye," I said shutting the door. The doorbell rang again. I opened the door. Mandy stood there.
"I really need to speak to him, it's important, I'm his ex-girlfriend, could you please get him, it's very important," Mandy said.
"Fine, go wait in the living room, he'll be right down," I said. I closed the door after she came in and she sat down. I went upstairs and sat on the bed.
"Nick, wake up," I said. He woke up.
"What is it?" Nick asked.
"Mandy's here," I said.
"What does she want?" Nick asked.
"She needs to talk to you, she says it's important," I said.
"Tell her I don't want to see her, okay," Nick said.
"Tried that, she won't leave, Nick, just talk to her," I said. He got up. He pulled me close.
"I love you," Nick said.
"I love you, too," I said smiling. He kissed me deeply. He got dressed and went downstairs. I went downstairs and stayed out of sight but in earshot.
"What do you want, Mandy," Nick said.
"Nick, I'm five months pregnant, it's yours," Mandy said.
I felt my heart drop. I tried to breathe. I put my hand on my chest as pain shot through it. I sat down and tried to breathe.
"Nick!" I called. Nick came in and saw me on the stairs.
"Bri, what is it?" Nick asked.
"I can't breathe, pain in my chest, it's my heart, something's wrong, I think I need to go to the hospital," I said. Nick looked at me.
"Do you have the same heart condition as Brian?" Nick asked. I nodded. Nick ran to the phone. He dialed 911. Then he called Brian. He came back and knelt in front of me. He stroked my cheek.
"It'll be okay, baby, you'll be okay," Nick said.
"I'm scared," I said crying.
"I'm not leaving you," Nick said. The ambulance arrived. Mandy came in from the living room.
"Ms. Littrell, how long have you had this heart condition?" the female paramedic asked.
"Since birth, nothing has happened until now," I said crying. They got me into the ambulance. Brian and Leighanne arrived. Brian ran to the ambulance.
"Sir, are you family?" the female paramedic asked.
"I'm her brother," Brian said. She nodded and Brian got in with me. I looked at Nick before they closed the doors. He was yelling at Mandy. He shook his head and went back inside and came back out and walked past her. The ambulance pulled away.
"Brian, I'm scared," I said.
"It'll be okay, sis," Brian said.
We arrived to the hospital. They took me in. Brian stayed out in the waiting room and called his parents. He sat down. Nick, Leighanne, Kevin, Kristen, AJ, Amanda, and Howie came into the waiting room. They all sat down and waited. The doctor came out. Everyone stood up.
"How is she?" Nick asked.
"We found a hole in her heart, she will need surgery," the doctor said.
"What," Brian and Nick said.
"We will need to close the hole or she'll die," the doctor said.
"Don't let her die, doctor, please, don't let her die," Nick said. The doctor nodded and went down the hall. Nick got up and went over to the window. Brian went over.
"Nick, what was Mandy doing at your house?" Brian asked.
"She's five months pregnant, she says it's mine, yeah right," Nick said.
"It could be that other guy's and he doesn't want anything to do with her, she probably came running to you," Brian said.
"You could be right, there is nothing that will keep me from Bri, I love her so much, I can't lose her, I can't," Nick said. Brian hugged him.
"I can't lose her either," Brian said.
Three months later, Bri was back to normal. She refused to talk to Nick. She moved into a condo on the beach and continued with her singing career with Brian as her manager. She went on tour opening for NSync. Brian went with her.
"Bri, listen to me, the baby isn't Nick's, okay, it's some other guy who's the father, Mandy was cheating on Nick, he used protection when he slept with her," Brian said.
"Sometimes protection doesn't work, Brian, I'm sorry, I know he's your best friend, but I can't forget it, I'm moving on with my life, I said.
"Are you really?" I heard Nick say. I turned and saw him standing there. Mandy beside him.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"Bri, I know you don't like me, but I came to tell you the truth, I lied, this isn't Nick's baby, it's someone elses, I got a paternity test taken and it's not Nick's baby, I needed help, I'm sorry I lied to him," Mandy said.
"Look, I got a show to do, so excuse me," I said pushing past them. Nick looked at Brian. He shrugged. Nick sat down and stared at the floor.
"I'm going home, Nick," Mandy said.
"Fine, bye," Nick said. Mandy left. Brian sat down.
"I'll keep trying to get through to her, Nick," Brian said.
"I love her so much, Frick, Bri is the most important person in my life, and I lost her," Nick said with tears in his eyes. What they didnt know was that I was around the corner and heard everything.
"I know you do, don't give up, okay," Brian said.
"I won't stop until I have her back, I hate this!" Nick said. I peeked around and saw that he was crying. I knew what I had to do. I went on to perform. I saw Brian and Nick in the audience in the middle of the show.
"I would like to dedicate this next song to someone very special to me, Nick, this song is for you," I said. He smiled. I performed Born to Make You Happy. I finished the show and went backstage. I took a show and put on shorts and a T-shirt and went out and saw Nick with Brian. Nick hugged me. I hugged him back.
"I'm sorry," I said. He hugged me tight.
"I love you, only you," Nick said burying his face in my neck.
"I love you, too," I said.
Three months later, Nick and I were closer than ever. I decided to ask Nick a question. I walked out to the pool and saw Nick sitting a pool chair.
"Hey baby," Nick said. I knelt down beside him.
"Nick, marry me," I said.
"What," Nick said.
"Will you marry me?" I asked.
"It's my job to ask you," Nick said.
"But I'm asking you, Nick, marry me," I said.
"Yes," Nick said. I smiled and we kissed deeply.

"And I believe you, Nick, I know you would never cheat on me, I know you would never lie to me," I said.
